The Pastor's Pen!
I’ve preached a series of sermons on Heaven. It started with Moses "Looking at the Promised Land!” Like Moses, I’m standing here looking, but “eye has not seen nor ear heard, what God has Prepared for them that Love Him” – Heaven. I can’t wait to get there.
Heaven is a Beautiful City of God, a Place of Exquisite Beauty. Canaan was the Promised Land, a land “flowing with milk & honey”. John describes Heaven as a place where Light shines like through Crystal, with Rainbows, Reflections, Gates of Pearl, 12 precious Stones & Streets of Gold. Heaven is where the Lamb is the Light, it doesn’t need the sun or moon, but Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life get to enter Heaven.
Heaven is a Bountiful Garden of Eden, where we will spend Eternity with Jesus. Canaan was a lush Garden, before the Israelites used & abused it. Heaven has a River of Life, the Living Water of Eternal Life. There is the Tree of Life, just like in the Garden of Eden where Adam & Eve Sinned. In Heaven is the Giver of Life; the One who Created us, then Saved us, now wants us to Live with Him, Forever. We can only Return to the Garden of Eden when we are perfect, glorified.
Heaven is a Blessed Group of Believers, where we will Worship, Forever. Canaan was where God’s children gathered to Worship Him. Heaven is a Place of “No Mores”; no more Sin, Sorrow, Suffering or Satan. Hallelujah! But only those who are Saved can go to Heaven; Jesus said, “you must be born-again to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” (John 3:3) In Heaven, we will fall down & worship Him, casting our crowns at His feet, & sing “You are Worthy to receive the Praise & the Glory!” We are the Bride of Christ, who will Be with God, forever.
What does God’s Promised Land, Heaven, look like to you? Heaven is a Place, where God’s Children will live with Him forever. It is a Place beyond our wildest imaginations, where God is Preparing for us. Heaven is a Prepared Place for a Prepared People. Are you Prepared to go to Heaven, are you Ready? There’s only 1 Way to get there; His Name is Jesus. John 14:6, Acts 4:12

Back in May a spring thunderstorm blew through our area bringing with it rain and lighting. During that storm lightning struck very close and “fried” our TV. The repairman could not get a new brain for the TV and did not recommend a used part that he could not guarantee. He suggested we purchase a new set which we did. The cable company replaced their box and the new TV was hooked up and we were back in business.
Fast forward to the sudden storm in our area the same afternoon as the eclipse. Three inches of rain fell in a very short period of time and lightning and thunder accompanied it. Guess what happened to us? You got it – our new TV was hit. It didn’t happen to any of our neighbors, just our house. This time there is more urgency to get the TV repaired because football season is about to begin!
To make a long story short I called a friend who works for the electric department and asked him to come check the power lines and see if he could find any problems. Over and over again I heard the words “grounded” and “bonded” as he walked our property checking the lines. I knew what he meant by grounded (connected to the earth to stabilize voltage) but bonded regarding electricity was new to me. A simple definition is “gluing” parts together in such a way that they are electrically connected to assure continuity and safety of the current.
We are in the process of determining that all of this is as it should be at our house but I keep thinking about these two words as they apply to our Christian life. Ephesians 3:17 tells us we are to be grounded/rooted in Christ so that we can know the width, length, depth and height of His love for us. When we accept Him in faith, we learn that His arms stretched wide on the cross for the whole world. The length of His love is for all eternity. The depth of His love addresses the deepest needs of our heart. The height of the love of Christ reaches to the very throne of God. Through the inspired words of scripture and direct access to Him in prayer, we can stay grounded in His love.
So what does “bonded” mean to our Christian life? If bonded means glued together or a permanent joining of parts, then we need to stay bonded together in our love for each other and our love for the people of the world for whom Jesus died. The hymn, “The Bond of Love,” reminds us “to join our hands that the world will know we are one in the bond of love.” Grounded and bonded – vital to electricity, vital to the life of a believer.
It’s hard to believe it is time to turn the calendar to September. This means it’s time for a new season of football, the beginning of autumn, and for you fisherman, great fall fishing. It will be a special time for me because I get to spend the first few days of the month with my two brothers. Hope September will be spectacular for each of you and, as always…………KEEP SINGING!
