Carol's Notes

Are you familiar with a hymn entitled “Praise for Redemption”?  This hymn written by Fanny Crosby first appeared in 1875 but it was not a hit and would lay hidden for eighty years.  In 1954 Billy Graham was planning a crusade in London and Cliff Barrows was busy compiling a song book for the crusade choir.  A London preacher and lover of hymns gave Barrows a copy of the song.  Barrows was unfamiliar with the hymn but immediately liked its exuberant chorus:  “Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord!  Let the earth hear His voice!”  Barrows used the hymn almost every night of what turned out to be a three-month revival across Great Britain.  Today it is one of Christianity’s favorite hymns that we know as “To God be the Glory”.

Exciting days are ahead for us during September.  Our “Month of Jubilee” is going to be filled with preaching from men God continues to use in marvelous ways.  I know you’re in for a treat musically, also.  I think I’ll just let it be a surprise for now but I will tell you there will be something special each Sunday morning and evening and special music Monday through Wednesday of the last week.  I’m very excited about our guest musicians and know you will enjoy the “favorites” chosen for the choir to sing during the month.

Our prayer is that the Month of Jubilee will be blessed of God in a mighty way.  When the special services are over and revival takes place in our hearts and lives, I hope we will be able to say as did Fanny Crosby “to God be the glory, great things He has done!”

Have an amazing September and remember - KEEP SINGING!

School has officially begun and we are moving things into full gear here at Collide as we begin to make our way through the school year with the eager anticipation of the students for summer once again.  This fall we will be taking a more active role in the athletics of Liberty High School as we attempt to become much more involved in this school as a student ministry.  Our main way of doing that this semester is to take part in the tailgating activities at Liberty High School in hopes of getting to meet students who want a free burger and that could possibly become a part of our student ministry.  This is something that I hope all of you in the church could become a part of.  We meet at around 5:30 to start eating and hanging out in the parking lot beside the tennis courts.  Come get a burger, play some corn hole and ladder ball, and get to know some of our church’s students and some new students before you head into the stadium to support LHS football.

As we start the new school year, please pray for the students and college leaders to practice perseverance and to finish strong in this upcoming school year so that God will get the glory for their hard work.

In Christ, Ethan
