Pastor's Pen - Upcoming Events - Numbers - Youth
The Pastor’s Pen!!!
First, the Bad News! Summer's over, Fall is just around the
corner, the kids are back in school, & vacation's are over. As we look back over
the summer, a lot of things have happened. What have we accomplished for the
Lord? 22 Youth went to Uplands Reach Camp in June for a life-changing
experience. They experienced God's Transforming Love. They came back different.
Vacation Bible School, Game Day Central, was great , averaging almost 100
children, youth & adults. We learned one thing, Run the Race, with Patience &
8 Youth & 4 Adults went to WV on a Mission Trip in July. Their lives changed, and they made a big impact on the family whose home they worked on. They repaired the family's house, shared God's Love with the family & 70-some other young people. They came back different. Pray for Steve, that he will give his heart to Jesus. God has been Good this summer. Lives have been changed, Commitments have been made.
Now, the Good News! It's September; a new Church year is starting. That means a new Budget, new Officers & Teachers, & changes in SS Classes. Looking forward to the new Church year, what are we expecting God to do? What are we asking Him to do? Are we asking God to do something that only He can do? "We have not, because we ask not, or we ask for the wrong reasons, or the wrong things." (James 4:1-3)
Our new Budget is a little over $200,000, slightly less than last year's, but we have to depend on God to give us the money, after all, it's His money. We have some different SS Teachers, some different people on Committees, & we need more Children's workers. We are moving the 12th graders, seniors, up to the College & Career class, in order to give them a head-start on college relationships and to incorporate some Leadership Training for them. Our Children's Classes are bigger than before, we have plenty of Children, but we need more workers.
To the Youth, is your Camp Transformation a life-long transformation? To the Children, Youth & Adults from VBS, are you faithfully Running the Race, looking to Jesus? To those who went on the Mission Trip, will you remain fired up, making a difference in someone's life, building them up, not tearing down? To the Parents & Grandparents of our Youth & Children, where are you Serving God, Leading your children & grandchildren, setting what kind of example?

Anxious - "do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything by prayer & supplication with thanksgiving, let your
requests be made known to God, & the peace of God, which passes all
understanding, will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians
Most of us have probably heard this verse a lot. In fact, it is a verse that has brought great comfort to many people. Paul does an excellent job in this verse of telling believers that they should not be anxious & should pray to the Lord for help. In fact, the verse describes the great peace of God that one might contain from not being anxious. What this goes on to mean is that like the Romans would guard a city so also God would guard ones hearts from the fiery darts of the Devil. However, did you know that this isn't what the whole verse says?
One thing we do a lot with scripture is to take a verse & use it to comfort us without truly understanding what the rest of it means. Yes, we are not supposed to be anxious, but why is that? How can we not be anxious? Well if you read right above this verse, it says this - "Rejoice in the Lord always, & again I say, rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to all; the Lord is at hand." Philippians 4:4-5
The main thrust of this passage is that we focus on the Lord & rejoice in Him; in fact, it is so important that Paul mentions it twice! The only way we can be free from anxiety is to focus on the Lord first & rejoice in Him. By rejoicing in the Lord we will be focusing on His desires & His will instead of focusing on our problems. So remember to rejoice in the Lord, & again I say, Rejoice!
