“The Trinity Trumpet”

“Seeking Him, Serving Him”

Volume 48 Number 11              November 2015

Pastor's Pen - Carol's Notes - Numbers - Events - Other - Pantry

From the Pastor’s Desk!

The prophet Habakkuk prophesied the nation of Israel during their “last days.” God’s Judgment upon a sinful & unrepentant nation is swift & sure. But in spite of all the bad news, God is still Good. There are so many things we can be Thankful for!
When Circumstances Change, Be Thankful God doesn’t Change. Habakkuk says, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls, . . .” Things Change – the Exodus, Exile, Romans, Temple Destroyed; Loss of Health, Home, Job or Family, but GOD DOES NOT CHANGE. From everlasting to everlasting, You are God (Psalm 90:2). Be Thankful for What we Have, not What we Do Not Have! Praise God for Who He Is - He is God, He’s Still on His Throne! What a Mighty God We Serve!
When Experiencing Suffering, Be Thankful for His Salvation. Yet, I will Rejoice in the Lord, I will Joy in God of my Salvation.” Yet - In spite of Pains, Problems & Predicaments, (we’ve all got’em); I will Rejoice, because when the Trumpet sounds, I’m outta’ here. Saved from Hell & Saved for Heaven; Suffering & Sorrows, Tears & Trials are short when compared to Eternity. Be Thankful what God has done for us through the Cross & Empty Tomb. Praise God for What He has Done. Thank You Lord, for Saving my Soul.
When Going through Trials, We Triumph through Christ. “The Lord is my Strength (& my Salvation), He will make my feet like deer’s feet.” Regardless of Trials & Tribulations, we have Victory in Jesus, Peace in God, we Triumph through Christ, to overcome Sin, Suffering, even Death. Praise God for What He is Going to Do. We are Saved, Sealed & Secure, Headed to Heaven.

Praise Him! Praise Him! We’ve Won! We’ve Won!

    Carol's Notes

During the hymn time at a recent Sunday night service, we began singing choruses that we remembered from our youth. What memories that brought to mind! During that same service we sang my mother’s favorite hymn and one of my Daddy’s favorites. While all that was going on, a memory from my past came flooding over me. Let me give you some background to help the memory make a little more sense.
My Daddy owned and operated Rogers Motor Supply, an automobile parts store. I can close my eyes and see very clearly the old soft drink machine that sat near the front door and the glass jar that sat on the counter chocked full of Tom’s peanuts. As I got older and could assist with inventory, Daddy let me count spark plugs and fan belts. The memory that came back to me that Sunday night was of pencils that Daddy used to advertise his business. On those pencils were some hymns associated with driving speeds. I remembered a couple of them and wished I could recall them all. Imagine my surprise when I searched it on the computer and found it. Think of this next time you are tempted to speed:

45 mph…..God Will Take Care of You
55 mph…..Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah
65 mph…..Nearer My God to Thee
75 mph…..Nearer, Still Nearer
85 mph…..This World Is Not My Home
95 mph…..Lord, I’m Coming Home
100 mph…..Precious Memories
As I’ve watched this beautiful place where we live change from the beauty of spring and summer to the richness of the colors of autumn, I wonder if this is what Folliot Pierpoint had experienced when he wrote the words that became the hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth.” That entire hymn is devoted to giving thanks for so many different things God has given us. It has been said that we tend to exhibit an “attitude of gratitude” in reverse proportion to our blessings – the more we have the less thankful we are. Is that true of us?
Ralph Waldo Emerson observed that because the stars are in the sky every night we barely given them a thought or a look. Perhaps, he thought, it would be far more exciting if we saw them every hundred years or so.
As we approach this Thanksgiving season, let us be people who are truly thankful for all the gifts and blessings we receive. Ephesians 5:20 reminds us to “give thanks always for all things unto God.” As one of our favorite hymns says, “Count Your Blessings”.
Enjoy time spent with family and all that good food we’ll eat Thanksgiving Day. Remember – count blessings, not calories. We’ll worry about the calories after all the holiday goodies are gone!!
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you and remember…KEEP SINGING!
