From the Pastor’s Desk!

40 Days of Prayer!

Trinity is in the midst of participating in Transformational Church, which includes a Church Health Assessment from Lifeway. A Transformational Church is a Church that is joining God on His Mission, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples.
We need a Missionary Mentality, to see the world around us a Mission Field. We give to the Cooperative Program to support Foreign, Home, State & Local Missions. We send members from our Church on Mission Trips, internationally, & here in the US. There is a Mission Field out there, just outside our Church walls.
Lost Souls Call us to the Mission Field. 70% of people in the US are Lost & Dying, Living without Hope. 50% of people in of VA are Lost & Dying, Living without Hope. People Do Not Know God Loves them, that Jesus Died to Save them, unless we tell them. How shall they Believe in whom they have not heard?
Love for All Souls Calls us to the Mission Field. In Romans 9, Paul tells of his Love for the Jews, that he would give his life for them. Acts tells of Paul's Love for the Gentiles, he goes on 3 missionary journeys to share Jesus. Remember, "Jesus Loves the little Children, red & yellow, black & white, they are precious in His sight." Paul & Silas went to prison so that 1 jailer could be saved.
Look at the Mission Field Around us. Jesus said, "the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few." (Matt 9:37) "The fields are white unto harvest." (John 4:35) "You shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria & to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8) Bedford has 6,800 people, 3,500 are un-churched. There are 1,000 homes, 2,500 people in a 1 mile radius of the Church. What a Mission Field!
As you leave this Building, you Enter a Mission Field!

    Carol's Notes

A few weeks ago Shawn Ames spoke at our Sunday morning worship service. To be perfectly honest I dont remember all that he told us during that message but I do remember the story he related about the hot-pink Barbie fishing pole on which was caught a state record channel catfish. At that moment that fishing rod was in the hands of an experienced fisherman, a master if you will, and he made that little rod and reel with lightweight line do more than it was designed to do.
That true fish tale reminded me of the story told in Wayne Watson's song "The Touch of the Master's Hand." An old violin came up for sale as the last item in an auction. It was battered and scarred and hardly seemed worth the effort. The auctioneer tried to get bids on the old violin and got the bid up to $3 trying to get $4. Out of the crowd stepped a gray-haired man. He dusted off the violin, tightened the strings, picked up the bow and began to play a melody "sweeter than the angels sing." Whenhe finished playing, the auctioneer started the bidding again, crying out who'll give me $1,000, who'll make it $2,000, only $2,000, who'll make it $3,000. The people at the auction questioned the auctioneer about what had made the change. The auctioneer answered with a smile, "it was the touch of the Master's hand."
Aren't we thankful that when our lives are battered, scarred and out of tune that our Master's touch once again brings worth and value and sweet music to our souls.      November brings with it a 5th Sunday. The Mark Dubbeld Family will be singing for us that day. Mark's wife, Janene, writes most of their music and the children are sure to put a smile on your face! Plan now to attend and invite your friends to hear this unique and powerful blend of family harmony in a concert of worship, testimony and praise.      Happy Thanksgiving to each of you. Enjoy time spent with family and friends and don't eat too much!!      Here's a question for you. Do you know the difference in a piano and a fish? You can tune a piano but you can't "tuna" fish!!      Count your blessings and, remember....KEEP SINGING!

Transformational Church?

Rom 12:2, "be Not Conformed to this world, but be Transformed by the renewing of your mind, . . . ." Conformed is to change because of pressure from the outside, becoming like the world, whereas Transformed is being changed from the inside out, a new creation. A Transformational Church is a Church that is joining God on His Mission, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ & making disciples. Those disciples become more like Jesus and begin transforming their community & the world for the Kingdom of God. There are 3 Categories with 7 Characteristics of a Transformational Church.
DISCERN your Context; the Context of the Church, the Culture of the Community. We need a Missionary Mentality, seeing the world around us a Mission Field. Jesus said, "you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria & to the uttermost part of the world." Trinity gave over $26, 000 to Foreign, Home, State, Local Missions last year. We are On-Mission for Him!
EMBRACE the Right Values; believing in our Mission, our Purpose, as a Church. Vibrant Leadership carries out our Mission by promoting "Open" Bible Study groups; open to all who want to come. Teachers teach not to simply learn new information, but to develop new Leaders & Teachers. We have to be Intentional about seeing people Saved & Involved in SS & Discipleship. We need to have Relational Intentionality; to be Intentional about developing Relationships with people both inside & outside the Church. We need Greeters who will welcome visitors to Church, helping them become part of Family of God. We need "Visit-ers" who will contact the visitors, to visit them at home or work. But we also have to have a Prayerful Dependence upon the Power & the Presence of God. "unless Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it." (Psalm 127:1) "if My people, which are called by My Name, will humble themselves & Pray." (2 Chron 7:14) "My house shall be called a House of Prayer." (Matt 21:13)
ENGAGE the Right Actions, because we believe this is what God has called us to do, to Share His Love & the Good news of the Gospel. In Worship, we must Actively Embrace Jesus - He is worthy of our Worship, give Him the praise & glory. (Rev 4:11) We can feel God's Spirit moving in our midst during our services. We also strive to become a Community of Believers, to Connect people with people. Fellowship is 1 of the 5 Functions of Church, where we learn & love each other. Community, Family is achieved as we spend time with each other in small groups. But we must also be on Mission, to show Jesus to a Lost & Dying world through Word & Action. We have 1 Purpose as a Church, to carry out the Great Commission, "go ye therefore." Go, share Jesus, there a Mission File waiting out there.

November Mission Emphasis

Refugees in Turkey

Our Mission Emphasis this month is a little different. As most of you are aware, Crystal DeLong spent several years teaching in Turkey. Crystal received the following information from a friend at the school in Turkey:
"If your heart is breaking for the people run out of their villages by ISIS (like mine is), please stay tuned here for how you can help. Our fellowship here is recognizing that we are the closest major city and group of believers to help the folks in the 6 camps here in Turkey." Esther 4:14: "And who knows whether you have come to your...position for such a time as this?"
First project idea to help the survivors (of Isis invasion) who have fled to Turkey: If you are in any sort of group looking for a humanitarian project this Fall, a tent that will help one family survive the (harsh and upcoming) winter is $500. All proceeds will go directly to the tent purchase, transportation and set up (no overhead costs thrown in). Our church can facilitate this. We've been told we'll get a picture of the family for who you purchased the tent. How's that for an awesome picture to put on your fridge? The Yazidis in Turkey are saying over and over "We will talk to you/trust you if you are Christian." The long term plan is to later set up one tent where truth is shared, folks are prayed for, needs are met. So, short term is get through the winter, long term is share the hope we have within us. Think about it, pray about it, let me know if your group wants to try it. Spread the word.
Trinity is currently collecting money for this project. We hope to get enough for at least one tent. If you want to give towards this mission project, please designate your donation for "Refugees in Turkey". Trinity will see that your donations get to the church in Turkey or if you prefer to send your donation, call Trinity at (540-586-8010) for the address.
Thank You!
