“Seeking Him, Serving Him”

Volume 43 Number 11               November 2010

Pastor's Pen - Carol's Notes - Numbers - Thanks - Upcoming Events - Pantry

The Pastor’s Pen!!!

Sing with me – “God is So Good, God is So Good.”  He is, He is, God is Good, All the Time!  We sing the Hymns, “There shall be Showers of Blessings” & “Count your Many Blessings.”  The Easter Brothers sing, “Thank You, Lord, for your Blessings on me.”  During this season of Thanksgiving, let’s stop & consider just how Good God is to us & pause to count our Many Blessings.

God has been Good to us, is Good to us & will continue to be Good to us, because He is God & He Loves His Children.  God’s very nature is to be Good, Loving & Holy.  He created us & this beautiful world in which we live & enjoy every day.  We need to stop messing it up & be more Thankful.  He Loved us & sent His Son (Jesus) to Die on the Cross so we could be Saved.  Now That’s Love!

God has Blessed us so Much, it’s hard to stop & count every Blessing, but let’s begin with Thank You Lord, for your many BlessingsPraise the Lord & don’t forget His Blessings. (Psalm 103)  Look how God has Blessed us.  He Forgives our sins, Heals our sickness, Saves us from Hell, Crowns us with compassion & Satisfies us with Good Things.  God is GOD & God is GOOD!

God not only has Blessed us materially (homes & health, finances & family), but He also Blesses us with spiritual Blessings.  Consider His Mercy, we deserve to die & go to Hell, but Jesus, God’s Son, took our place.  He gave us His Presence, we can walk & talk with Him every day.  But God doesn’t just Bless us so we can keep His Blessings to ourselves, God Blesses us so we can Bless Others!

Have A Blessed Thanksgiving!

Carol's Notes

On a recent rainy afternoon with my plans to work in the yard postponed, I decided to watch one of my favorite movies, “Mr. Holland’s Opus”.  This movie tells the story of a musician who dreams of composing one memorable piece of music.  Reality intrudes his dream and he reluctantly accepts what he hopes will be a temporary job as a high school music teacher to support his family.  Not too far into what becomes a 30-year career, he realizes that his real passion is teaching and his legacy is the generations of young people he inspired through music.

My favorite quote from the movie comes when Mr. Holland is trying to teach one of his students to play the clarinet.  She has all but given up when Mr. Holland makes one last attempt to encourage her to find the “fun” in music.  He tells her that although it takes work “music is suppose to be fun.  It’s about heart, feelings, moving people.  Music is something beautiful, something alive.”

I hope that’s what our congregational, choir and piano music is as we worship – something alive, beautiful and moving.  But for it to be these things it has to be a participatory ministry.  Pay attention to the words of those hymns we love and have known all our lives.  Let them speak anew to our lives and meet us where we are today.  Don’t be afraid to enjoy the new praise music we are learning.  Let it lead you to a new worship experience.  Scripture tells us that God inhabits the praises of his people and this is certainly true of our musical offerings of praise.

My prayer is that all of our worship music will be Motivational, a Unique way to worship and enter his courts with praise, a source of Strength, Inspirational, and a means of constant Communion with our Lord.

Don’t forget to “count your many blessings” every day of this month as we celebrate Thanksgiving.  Enjoy your families and every bite of that good Thanksgiving dinner (we’ll diet after the first of the new year!) and remember - KEEP SINGING!
