From the Pastor’s Desk!

Welcome to Spring!!! Winter may not yet be over, but we look forward to Easter. As we prepare for the Crucifixion & the Resurrection, I am planning a sermon series on Worship. I finished the series on The Last Days; we are Living in The Last Days, waiting for His Return. But in the meantime, we Gather to Worship, then Depart to Witness. This is what we know about Worship.
Jesus is Worthy of our Worship. In Revelation chapter 4, whenever the 4 living creatures cry, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” the 24 elders, (the Church), falls down before God saying, “You are Worthy to receive the glory, honor & power.” Worship is “Worth-ship”. He is Worthy of our Worship; He is Lord God Almighty, there is none greater! He is Creator God; He created the world & everything in it. He is Redeemer God; that which He created He had to die for to redeem us from sin. He is also the Ever-Living God, “who was & is & is to come” (back).
We experience True Worship when we enter the Presence of God (Isaiah 6). In His Presence, we realize how Sinful we are, what we deserve. But that’s exactly when we experience the Grace of God, the Forgiveness of our Sin. Worship involves Prayer, Praise & the Presence of God, along with Confession & Forgiveness of Sin, then Responding to the Spirit of God, Trust & Obey.
Pure Worship is all about Him. Jesus said, “Worship Him in Spirit & in Truth.” The Place of Worship is not important, whether Temple, Church or Building, but the Object of our Worship must be God. It’s not about the Style of Worship, nor about the Type of Music. The Purpose of Worship is to Communicate with God; when He speaks, we listen & respond, through Prayer, Preaching & Praise. We also Celebrate Jesus, Praise Him for who He is & what He has done. Worship involves Confession of Sin & Commitment to God.

Worship, that’s what we do! Come, Worship with Us.

    Carol's Notes

In 1849 Heinrich Steinweg, a piano maker from Seesen, Germany, sent his son Carl to America to explore business possibilities.
In 1850 the piano world had many well-known names but the name of Steinway and Sons was still unheard of.
By 1880 Steinway had revolutionized both the way pianos were made and marketed. In 30 years they had become the world’s most renowned piano.
In June of 1850 Heinrich, his wife, 3 daughters and 3 of his 5 sons joined Carl for a new life in a new land. Heinrich was 53 when he came to America at the urging of his sons. The family had enjoyed prosperity in Germany but Carl believed New York offered so much more.
They Americanized their name and took jobs with established piano makers to learn the ways of the new world. In March of 1853 the firm of “Steinway and Sons” was formed and square pianos were initially produced at the rate of 1 per week. By 1860 they were producing 30 square pianos and 5 Steinway grands a week with 350 employees.
By 1880 they were making pianos in both New York and a new plant in Hamburg, Germany. They were making every part of their instruments and were even using their own sawn timber from their extensive supply of lumber.
Because of the desire of composers like Chopin and Liszt for a stronger, richer sounding, more durable piano, the Steinways arrived in America with a vision to build a piano better and stronger than ever seen or heard. An important patent in 1859 of the over-strung scale put Steinway on the road to great success.
Deaths in the family, two world wars and in between the great depression did their best to halt production of Steinway pianos but the family-owned business did survive and today it remains “the Standard Piano of the World.”
Did you know we are a part of this Steinway history? The beautiful Steinway grand in our sanctuary was made in 1925. Sometime this year our piano will be 92 years old. Despite her nicks and scratches she is still quite a beauty! I’m happy to report that the maintenance work approved in our last business meeting has begun. New hammers and shanks have been ordered. Once they are replaced and the piano is regulated and tuned, I’m told it will have a much richer sound and the action of the keyboard will feel very different.
I’m so grateful to have been a part of the life of our Steinway for over 30 years. I always dreamed of owning my own Steinway grand but God knew that would not happen so He put me in a place where I could still know that joy and what a privilege it has been.
Our piano is being renewed and the arrival of spring on March 20th brings a time of renewal to the earth. Seems to me this marvelous month of March and all the renewal it brings gives us lots of reasons to...KEEP SINGING!
