“The Trinity Trumpet”

“Seeking Him, Serving Him”

Volume 45 Number 3               March 2012

Pastor's Pen - Sherry's Notes - Numbers - Youth - Pantry

The Pastor's Pen

I preached 7 Sermons from the 7 Churches of Revelation.  What is Jesus saying to Trinity (& other Churches) after hearing what Jesus said to the 7 Churches in Revelation?

The Church at Ephesus had Left their First Love.  Jesus said, “Remember, Repent & Return.”  We’ve taken our eyes off Jesus.  The Church at Smyrna was under Pressure to Conform to the likes & dislikes of modern society.  Jesus said, “Remain Faithful,” “Do not be Conformed,” don’t succumb to society’s whims.

The Church at Pergamos had Compromised their Beliefs & Practices. They looked & acted like the rest of the world.  Jesus said, “Repent.”  We are the Bride of Christ, therefore act like it.  The Church at Thyatira was Corrupt.  Thyatira allowed a false teacher with her idolatry & immorality to corrupt their standards.  Are we following biblical standards set for our teachers & leaders?  The Church at Sardis was Dead, simply going through the motions of being a Church.  Jesus said, “Remember & Repent.”  We too, have a Remnant, so we’re not Dead, just some dead wood.

The Church at Philadelphia was Faithful in doing whatever God set before them.  There is NO Condemnation for those who are Faithful.  In every Church there a Faithful Few that still love the Lord.  Jesus said, “Hold Fast, I’m coming Soon.”  The Church at Laodicea was Lukewarm, neither Cold nor Hot.  We are Comfortable, Contented, & Complacent while people are Lost, Dying & going to Hell.  We need to renew our Passion for our First Love.

God may be saying the same things to a lot of other Churches

Sherry's Notes

This year is “MARCHing” on! (Sorry, couldn’t help myself-:))  This is a wonderful time of year.  We know that spring is just around the corner.  But for just a moment I would like to look back on February.

The step for me to fill the position of choir director was a decision made with fervent prayer.  I never imagined or aspired to be a choir director.  I loved singing my little alto part in the choir.  I even told God that surely there was someone out there that has experience and more knowledge but He would have nothing to do with my excuses.  Nudging me ever so gently, I finally surrendered.  Yes Lord I will.  Then, almost immediately that period at the end of the last sentence turned to an exclamation point!  We may not understand why things happen the way they do but we have the assurance that our God is in control and His plan is perfect.  We just need to trust Him and allow Him to lead even in the times it seems to be easier said than done.

Now, you probably already know this but I will tell it anyway.  There is a wonderful group of people that fill the choir loft for the Sunday morning services.  Trinity’s choir members are faithful and committed and they love the Lord and it shows.  They faithfully come every Sunday morning for Worship service and Wednesday night for practice.  During the Wednesday night practice they work hard to learn new songs and review old ones.  But it isn’t all work and no play because we certainly have a fun time together.  I would not be afraid to speak for them in saying it is one of the highlights of their week, I know it is for me.  Thank you choir, you are the best!

Yes, it takes commitment to be a part of the choir but if you love the Lord and you love music and you enjoy singing, you will love being a part of the choir.  I invite you to come join us. You will be warmly welcomed and you will be blessed more than you can imagine.

And last but not least....KEEP ON SINGING! (thank you Carol!)

Youth

“These who have turned the world upside down have come here also.” (Acts 17:6)  Our Vision is to turn our world upside down, to Collide with Culture because Christ Changes Hearts.  That’s what Jesus Called us to do.

Dan has resigned as Youth Pastor, so we have to search for another, but in the meantime, Wanda & I have volunteered to fill in as “interim” leaders, along with Sam, Courtney & Jen. (Remember to pray for Jen, she will be on a Mission Trip to Ecuador during Spring Break.)  Sam and the Deacons have agreed to help wherever they are needed.

The format for Collide Student Ministries has not changed, except I don’t have the musical ability that Dan had.  On Sunday mornings, during the Sunday School hour, we start with Singing (at 9:30 AM), and then Studying the Book of Revelation.  We start the 7 Seals of Tribulation (Ch. 6) on the 1st Sunday in March (the 4th).

On Sunday evenings, we begin a Doctrinal Study, what we Believe, called “Fundamentals of the Faith.”  Barbara Chittum will lead the “Fundamentals” Study, which will run about 13 weeks.  Every student will have a workbook for study during the week, then we meet to discuss what we have learned.

On Wednesday nights, from 7-8 pm, we start with Praise Time, led by Liz Maynard, just “Praising the Lord.”  Then an in-depth Bible Study, studying both the OT and NT.  Currently I am leading a study of 1st John.  Questions are invited.

Invite your Friends, Let’s Turn Bedford Upside Down!
