The Pastor’s Pen!!!
Spring! I am looking forward to sunny skies, warm days and No More Snow. Spring is just around the corner, and then Easter. Up from the Grave He Arose! Now that gets me Excited! But before the Resurrection is the Cross. Before we have an Empty Grave, we have to experience the Cross. Jesus came “Seek & to Save the Lost.” That means He had to travel The Road to Calvary.
Christ in on the Road to Calvary. Jesus came to Die on Calvary’s Cross because of our Sins. The Jews longed for the Coming of the Messiah, just as we long for the Rapture & the 2nd Coming. Jesus was a Prophet, Preacher, Teacher, Healer & Miracle worker, but the real reason the Son of God came to earth was to Die for our Sins because we couldn’t & we wouldn’t. He Died in our place.
The Common Reaction to the Road to Calvary is exactly like the Disciple’s reaction. They didn’t want to hear about it. “No way,” they said. The World looks for another way to get to Heaven, whether going to Church, doing Good Works, or even making Money, but Jesus said there is “No Other Way.” (John 14:6) The Cross reveals our Sinful Condition. Remember it was the religious people that crucified Jesus. Religion, Church or Good Works Cannot Save you, only Jesus Saves.
Jesus leaves us a Call to Travel the Road to Calvary. It is a call to Surrender, to Surrender All to Jesus, surrender our Heart, our Will & our Life to Him. It is a call to Sacrifice, to deny ourselves, take up the Cross & Follow Him. It is also a call to Service, serving Him, because of what He’s done & because He’s Coming Back, SOON!

I would like to think that it’s “goodbye winter – hello spring” but I guess it’s still too early! As I sit down to write this article, I have just returned to the house from my morning walk, the third straight day I’ve been able to take a walk since all our snow and bitterly cold weather. Upon my return I stopped in the kitchen for a drink of water and to enjoy the birds gathered near the feeder – would you believe there was a robin in the yard! I’m not the only one ready for spring!
All our bad weather caused us to miss our 5th Sunday Sing in January but God was gracious and we were able to gather for worship the next Sunday. How blessed we were by the beautiful way Dale Moats led us into the presence of the Lord through music. I can’t wait to invite Dale back again – think he can be easily persuaded by the promise of fried chicken!!
Thanks to Zachery Williams, Valerie Wilson & Vicky Sutliff and Broken for sharing with us as we emphasized the on-going work of our men’s and women’s ministries.
March finds the choir busily at work on “Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb” that will be a part of our Easter Sunday celebration. If you ever wanted to sing with the choir when we do a special presentation, now’s your chance. Come join us the next few weeks – there is always room for more voices
Say, stop by the church and see the newly renovated music office. My thanks to Tim Maynard and Vernon for their hard work. We cleaned the “stuff” out of the adjacent classroom then they cut a doorway from the music office into that room. Now we have plenty of space for storage of music and easy access to our music. Thanks guys for a job well done!
Here’s a thought to leave with you: Remember that today’s mighty oak is just yesterday’s nut who held his ground!!
Wishing you a marvelous March and remember – KEEP SINGING!
Carol (Judges 5:3)

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the month of March and winter is on its way out.
Our student ministry has recently started supporting a ministry called Freedom 424. Freedom 424 is a ministry based in Lynchburg whose sole purpose is to raise funds and awareness to help young women in Thailand escape lives of prostitution. Most of these young women are forced by their situation to move from their hometown in Thailand to Bangkok in hopes of finding a job that will adequately support their whole family while only in their teenage years. Most of those girls turn to prostitution as their best source of income. Freedom 424 is named as such because a young girl’s nightly fee is usually twenty-four dollars. This ministry sends representatives out who pay the fee for the night and then take the girls to have some fun that shows them honor either out or at the center. After spending some time with the girls the worker shares with the girls the gospel and the opportunity for the girl to become free of her situation and to gain an education that can help her provide for herself and her family in an honorable way. As a group we are starting to try to help these girls get out of a horrible situation twenty-four dollars at a time. We hope to move from just financial support eventually to even volunteering at fundraising events in Bedford. We are selling stickers and bracelets to raise the funds. Come downstairs to get yours and take part in this awesome ministry.
Please continue to pray for our student ministry and especially our leadership as we continue the transition and look at new ways to minister to Bedford students more effectively.
