From the Pastor’s Desk!

February is the month of Love. Happy Valentine’s Day! A day to remember our Loved Ones & tell them we Love them. What do you know about the Love of God? God’s Love is Amazing!
Everybody knows “God so Loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) John shares the Amazing Fact of His Love. God Loved us All, so He gave His All so we could receive His All, even when we were Hopeless & Helpless; we needed Saving, but couldn’t save ourselves. God’s Love is Amazing!
“God commended His Love for us, for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8) Paul shares the Sweep of His Love. We were Wicked, Wayward & Worthless, but God said we were still Worth Saving. So He sent His Son to Die on the Cross to Save us from our Sins, even before we were born. Now, that’s Amazing Love!
But “to us who are Kept by the Power of God unto Salvation.” Peter shares the Power of God’s Love. (1 Peter 1:5) Saved, Sealed & Secure, Kept by God’s Amazing Love! John says, “as many as receive Him become the children of God, to those who believe in His Name.” (John 1:12) Paul says, “if children, then heirs; heirs of God, & joint-heirs with Jesus.” (Rom 8:17) We cannot Lose our Salvation, because I can say, “I am a Child of the King!” That’s Amazing Love!
Remember the Chorus “Amazing Love, how can it be?

That You, my King, would die for me?
Amazing Love, I know it's true.
It’s my joy to honor You.
In all I do, I honor you.
Jesus, You are My King.”

    Carol's Notes

As I began to give thought to this Newsletter article, we’re only a few days past the inauguration of our new President and I must admit that I am still filled with apprehension about what will happen in our country in these next few years.
Before beginning to write I decided to do some reading of articles I had laid aside during the holidays to read at a later time. One of those articles was certainly meant for me and I hope you will be encouraged by these reminders from scripture as shared in an article by Erwin Lutzer:
     1. Christ is Eternal. Our presidents hold office for one or two terms then fade from the scene. Jesus will reign forever!
     2. Christ is almighty. Our presidential candidates made extravagant promises and spoke as though they had unlimited power to bring prosperity and enact laws. Matthew 28:18 makes it very clear to whom all authority has been given!
     3. Jesus will exercise justice and mercy in perfect balance. Can politicians make that claim? Isaiah reminds us “he will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth.”
Christ is the perfect politician, not just worthy of a vote but worthy of our worship and praise!
Enough of politics – let’s talk about praising the Lord through music. I received a beautiful Christmas ornament and on it the words “God gave us music so we could pray without words.” Several years ago the choir gave me a necklace with a beautiful silver treble clef hanging from it engraved with the words “Music is what faith sounds like.” I sincerely pray that you are moved by the music in our worship services. Music has always been an integral part of my life and I enjoy sharing it with my church family as we gather for worship. I’ve recently been listening to some exciting new music for the choir that may take us all a little out of our “comfort zone” musically but believe it will still keep us focused on magnifying and praising God.
Have you ever noticed that many times events in our lives are tied to the music of those seasons. My children and I will always link the pop song, “Walk Like an Egyptian” to the drive to Pensacola for my father’s funeral. Every time we changed the radio station we heard that song. My first bout with cancer will always be linked to the song “Where There Is Faith” (the “power song” as my young grandson called it). My fight song for this new battle is linked to the song “Because He Lives (Amen).” Of course, Bill and I had “our song” when we were dating. Music has a way of sealing special moments into our memories. Music may bring joy, a sense of reverence, tears, or even make us want to shout. Whatever the emotion music brings may we never be afraid to sing with the gusto and energy of children (after all we are His children) and may we always remember the one who gave us life and breath and so many reasons to sing.
Have a fabulous February (don’t forget Valentine’s Day) and, as always,
KEEP SINGING!
