Pastor's Pen - Carol's Notes - Numbers - Youth - Pantry

The Pastor’s Pen!!!

God is Love! (1 John 4:8)  For God so Loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. (John 3:16)  Replace the word “world” with your name, or “me.”  For God so Loved me that He gave His only begotten Son. He gave Jesus, for Me.  Behold, what manner of Love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God.  (1 John 3:1)  Now, that’s Love!

Here’s the Good News!  You can personally experience the incredible Love of God for yourself.  You can know Him personally, because He is a personal, Loving God.  You can enjoy Fellowship with God, experience real Joy & have the complete Forgiveness of Sin, all because of God’s Love & the shed blood of Jesus.

The Privilege of God’s Love is for us to be called His children.  As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)  If children, then heirs, heirs of God & joint-heirs with Christ. (Rom 8:17)  What an awesome Privilege!

The Mystery of God’s Love, is that we shall all be changed from this weak, physical body with all its sin & sorrow, into a glorified, spiritual body. (1 Cor 15:51)  Just imagine, one day, No More pain, no more sorrow, no more tears, no more death.  Quite a Mystery, why God would Love us so much.

The Hope of God’s Love is eternal life in Christ, for whoever believes in Him should not die, but have everlasting life.  Praise the Lord, we’re going to live Forever with Jesus in Heaven.

Oh, how I Love Jesus because He first Loved me.

Carol's Notes

One of the anthems the choir sang during the Christmas season began “Good news, good news, good news of great joy!”  It seems that I’ve been receiving lots of good news since the holidays.  Our grandson, Derrik, is now a college freshman.  After resting from school for a semester, he kept his promise and started school in January.  Our granddaughter, Morgan, is a high school senior this year.  She is having a good basketball season and just recently learned that she has been accepted at Christopher Newport University for her college days.  This was her school of choice after visiting several campuses so we are very excited for her.  Last but not least is the news that Michael and his family are returning to the states and will once again be living just a few hours from here.  Needless to say we are most excited and eagerly awaiting their arrival in late February.  Can’t wait to have those four granddaughters close enough to really spoil!

Wouldn’t it be great if all the news we received was good news?  We know all too well that this is not the case; but we also know the “good news” of our Savior’s love for us and how securely He holds us in His hands through all the good news and bad news of our lives.

One of my favorite Bill Gaither songs says, “You ask me why my heart keeps singing, you ask me why when all is wrong, but since I found the Source of music, I just can’t help it, God gave me the song.  Too many nights without dawn’s promise, too many days without the sun.  Then Jesus came and gave life meaning, day after day the song goes on.”

I’m thankful for the good news of recent days and eternally grateful for the love of my Savior who will carry me through the bad news that is sure to invade.  I pray that like the hymn writer Elton Roth I can always say “in my heart there rings a melody of love.”

Have a fantastic February (don’t forget your favorite Valentine) and remember the source of the music who makes it possible for us to Keep Singing!

Youth

I want to thank all of you for being so supportive thus far in preparation for our student ministry’s retreat.  An unforeseen issue has caused us to have to change the retreat from being at Eagle Eyrie and change to a more mobile situation in which the retreat will take place all around the area.  We will be in Lynchburg for an activity on Friday night and will then head to The Master’s Inn in Altavista for a Saturday full of awesome camp activities.

Since this event will be happening this weekend I want to ask that you would be in prayer for all of our students and leaders.  Pray especially that our students who are already followers of Christ would grow in their relationship with him and that our students who haven’t given their life to him would hear the Gospel and respond to it sometime this weekend.  We appreciate all of your prayers for our ministry.

A need that we have discovered in the past few months was our lack of bibles.  Through giving ours out we are down to only a handful of what we once had.  We are planning to buy a set of ESV Value Thinline bibles through Christian Book Distributor and need your help.  Each of these bibles are $7.99 and we are hoping to buy at least 20 of for a total of $160.  We need your help for this fundraiser.  See Ethan if you would like to give to provide bibles for our student ministry.

In Christ, Ethan
