As I sit in my office at the church today working on music for the coming weeks, I can hardly believe that January is over and February is here. They say time passes much quicker as you get older...like I need any reminders! There is much excitement for me as I see these days passing so quickly because I will be able to retire from Piedmont Label/Smyth Company in October after 27 years. No, I'm not counting the days, but probably only have about 150 days left there!
I, too, am excited about music for the upcoming weeks. The choir is working diligently on lots of new music. I think you will enjoy the variety of music styles we're learning from traditional hymns, to southern gospel, and just plain "fun" music. Come join us on Wednesday nights for practice - there is always room for you!
Ladies, mark your calendars for February 22nd - Women's Sunday. If you cannot commit to the choir on a weekly basis, I would encourage you to join us for rehearsal on February 18th and sing with us for Women's Sunday.

The Mission of the Body of Christ
One of my favorite books of the Bible is Paul’s letter to the Church at Ephesus. In Ephesians, Paul details where believers were before they accepted Christ, how God works when they accept Christ, and how they are supposed to live afterwards. Several times Paul alludes to the Church as the “Body of Christ”. It seems that Paul did this for a reason, not only to show that Christ is the head of the Church but also to show the importance of the Church being like a body. If one were to simply look at the body, they would find that it is made up of cells. These cells are never in a dormant state; however, they are always reproducing themselves to help keep the body healthy and to help grow the body properly. In the same way as the body is made of cells and needs to reproduce we also as believers need to be reproducing ourselves in the lives of others and one way this is done is through Church planting.
One of the most exciting things that we are going to be starting to do in youth group is helping a Church plant in Madison Heights. By doing this we will not only be fulfilling the great commission, but also it will help us reproduce ourselves in the lives of others, and maybe even garner some excitement towards building up of the Body of Christ. The first way we are going to do this is by helping them to distribute literature on March 7 in Madison Heights. Through this, they hope to build contacts and even help other see the need for Jesus Christ.
I want to encourage the whole church to be involved in this process. As Pastor Vernon has mentioned numerous times it is our responsibility to be sharing our faith with others, this is one practical way in which we can do so. I pray that we will start to live the commands that Christ has given us and be willing to reproduce ourselves in the lives of others. I know that this is something that I am going to try to be encouraging the youth to do through the service project on March 7th and hopefully something that God will use in the future to help continue to grow His body through His people. More information will follow. I encourage you to be praying for this opportunity and that you would even be willing to help.
God has Called us, now it is Time for us to Go!
