The Pastor's Pen

Merry Christmas!  Just saying Merry Christmas brings up images of the Christmas Story; the Shepherds, the Wise Men, the Baby on the Manger.  Remember how the Wise Men followed the Star to Bethlehem, they brought gifts to worship the King of the Jews.  We don’t know how many Wise Men there were, or where they came from, but we do know there was a group of “Foolish Wise Men” in Jerusalem who were asked about the Birth of Jesus.

They Knew the Location but did Not Know the Lord.  The Wise Men searched the Scriptures & followed the Star, but the Foolish Wise Men knew the Incident, but missed the Incarnation.  You can Know All About Jesus, but Not Know Jesus.  Jesus is more than a Prophet, Preacher, Teacher or Healer; He is the Son of God!

They Knew the Scriptures but did Not Know the Savior.  The Wise Men found 37 OT Prophecies concerning Christ; they knew the When, Where, & Why the Christ Child would be born, but the Foolish Wise Men only found the answer to Herod’s question, they knew the When & Where, but did not know Why Jesus was born.  You can Know the Bible, but not Know the Author of the Bible.  Knowing the Christmas Story cannot Save you, only Jesus Saves!

They Knew Christ would Rule but would Not let Him Rule Them. The Wise Men sought the Savior, now they worshipped the King, the Foolish Wise Men knew the Time, Place & Circumstances, but failed to Bow down & Worship.  They Quoted the Bible, but did not Act upon it.  One day every knee will Bow & Confess Jesus as Lord!

“Wise Men still Seek Him.”

Carol's Notes

What a scrumptious Thanksgiving dinner we had as a family – about 20 of us gathered at “GG’s” & “G’Dad’s” house.  We had such yummy food and lots of it!  Did I eat too much…what do you think?!  A few days later I was working around the house and had the radio on to hear some Christmas music as I began to unpack the Christmas decorations. Suddenly, a voice from the radio asked, “are you a fat Christian?”  After the meal I had eaten a few days before, I was highly insulted by this question.  As I listened to the devotional thought, the minister explained that we all should be “fat” – Faithful, Available, Teachable.  I’m sure all of us will probably be a few pounds heavier by the time January arrives and we’ll go to the gym or go on a diet to shed the extra weight, but I pray we will always be “F-A-T” for the work God has for us to do.

Speaking of “F-A-T”, I took a few minutes to look over the music the choir has done this year and I really believe we challenged ourselves and grew musically.  None of this would have been possible had the choir not been “F-A-T” and willing to stay committed to the task of preparing our hearts for worship.  Thank you, choir, for another great year of ministry!

“Mary, Did You Know?” has become a Christmas favorite in recent years.  Written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene, this lovely anthem provides the title for our Christmas cantata.  Please make plans to be in attendance (and invite your friends & family) as we share the joyous message of hope our Savior’s birth brings to the world.  Make plans, also, to stay and fellowship as we gather for our church Christmas dinner following the cantata.  Look forward to seeing you on December 18th.

Bill and I wish each of you a very “Merry Christmas” and hope the season brings with it lots of time to enjoy your family and friends.

Have a delightful and delicious December and remember….Keep Singing!
