The Pastor’s Pen!!!
Thanksgiving is over, and the world turns its attention to the Christmas season. As the world gets farther and farther away from the real reason for Christmas, we need to take time to worship Jesus, who is the Real Reason for the Season. We need to make Room in our hearts, and Time in our lifestyles, for Jesus.
Remember the Innkeeper; he didn’t have Room for Jesus at the Inn. Are we too Busy, don’t take the Time to worship? The Innkeeper didn’t know Jesus was coming. We can’t use that excuse. Even though the world tries to gloss over the Reason we celebrate Christmas, that’s why it’s called Christmas. It’s All About Christ!!!
When Jesus was born, the Townspeople didn’t take Him into their Homes nor their Hearts. Maybe they didn’t want to be bothered. Maybe they didn’t like unexpected guests. Either way, they failed to act on this “Love thy neighbor” thing. Remember the old song by Grandpa Jones, “A Special Guest?” A very Special Guest, the Son of God, was born that night in Bethlehem, and the people did not make Room for Jesus in their Lives, their Homes, nor their Hearts.
The Angels Praised God for the Birth of the Son of God. (John 1:14) The Shepherds came to Adore Him, the Savior of the world. (Luke 2:11) The Wise Men came to Worship Him, the King of Kings. (Matt 2:2) But the Jews, and a lot of people in 21st century America, rejected Him. They rejected the Savior of the world, because they didn’t have Room for Him in their Hearts, nor their Lives. “O come to my heart, Lord Jesus, there is Room in my Heart for You!”

What does 121 Underground Mean?
The past few months in youth group we have spent a lot of time talking about what 121 Underground means. Coming from the outside, one of the best things I found out about the youth group (besides the fact that the youth themselves are amazing) is that the name and the verse for the youth group are both excellent.
The verses are found in Romans 12:1-2 which says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
The best thing about these verses is that they truly show what it means to be a Christian. Over the past few months in youth we have talked in great detail about these two verses and what they mean not only for youth growing up in today’s society, but how to apply these two verses to our lives. The most important thing we went over was before one understands what it means to be a living sacrifice they first have to understand what it means be a sinner, then also what it means to understand the mercies of God.
Paul goes in great detail talking about sinners in Romans 1-3 and really shows that as human beings we are hopeless without Christ. Paul is helping us understand that without Christ one can do nothing…absolutely nothing at all…and that the need for Christ is so prevalent. Before one can even understand the two verses, they need to know this point. Not only that we are sinners but also that the mercies of God are so prevalent in our lives.
One thing that was stressed to the youth through this is that these two points are essential in truly understanding what it means to be a living Sacrifice. Because, by understanding that we are sinners and also understanding we cannot do anything on our own, then we truly understand what it means to be a living sacrifice. The coolest part about this whole passage is that which Christ wants from us is one who is willing to serve Him. To be a living Sacrifice!
Just like it was asked of the youth group, are you being a living sacrifice? What are you doing to understand that we are all sinners and all need God’s mercy and that through that you need to be a living sacrifice for the Lord. It is a challenge that the youth group is dealing with and one that all Christians need to be dealing with. So it is time to understand where we were and to understand what Christ did, and then finally to live our lives for Him continuously.
