The Pastor's Pen!

We Sing Hymn #335 “Standing on the Promises” of God. I love to stop the congregation while we are singing and say, “Name me a Promise.” A Lot of people cannot think of a single promise on a split-second’s notice, but there are so many promises made by God to every one of us as Christians. “I will Never Leave you nor Forsake you” & “In My Father’s House are many Mansions” are some of the favorites.
Peter writes to Christians that are struggling with life’s troubles & trials to encourage them to hang in there. He writes to those of “like Precious Faith,” we have been given “exceeding great & Precious Promises”. Peter lists 5 Precious Promises of Faith.
We are Saved by the Grace of God. (Eph 2:8-9) We didn’t deserve it, we couldn’t earn it, nothing we could do to get it, but God gave us Grace (in spite of ourselves).
We are Delivered by the Son of God, delivered (Saved) from Death & Hell through the Resurrection of Jesus. Because He Lives, we too shall live with Him in Heaven forever, after this life is over.
We are Sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph 3:13-14), which is our guarantee that we get to go to Heaven. In his first letter Peter says we are “kept by the Power of God.” I am a Child of the King!
We are Healed by the blood of the Lamb. “By His stripes we are healed,” (Isaiah 53:5) but we are healed to serve (Mark 1:31).
We are Rewarded by His Resurrection from the Grave – He Lives! If the Gospel story ended with Jesus’ Death on the Cross, we would be Saved from Hell. We wouldn’t have to worry about Dying & spending Eternity in Hell. But the Gospel doesn’t end there; after the Cross comes the Resurrection. Up from the Grave He Arose!      We are Partakers of God’s Divine Nature (Child of the King), having escaped the World (& the Wages) of Sin.
